About a week ago, we found out that a Malaysian team has qualified, for the first time ever, to compete in the Spaceport America Cup (SA CUP) next year.

And while we can’t wait to see what Team Wau Rocketry brings to the table at the Intercollegiate Rocket Engineering Competition, the cost of travelling and attending the event has hindered the entire team’s participation.

Which is why they have started a crowdfunding campaign to help get their entire team on a plane and off to Southern New Mexico for the SA CUP in June 2022.

Sa Cup 1

Team Leader and Project Manager of the Wau Rocketry team from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Vanmitha Athimoolam, shared with WORLD OF BUZZ that the team of 12 students need financial support from Malaysians in order to attend and compete at the international event.

“We are representing Malaysia, to compete in the world’s largest student rocket launch competition.”

“Your contributions are highly appreciated as it gives us strength and motivation to win this competition and launch the Malaysians rocket!” she said.

Their crowdfunding goal is currently set at RM20,000 and by contributing, you might also fly with their rocket (or at least your name will).

“By contributing to our project, Malaysians will get a chance to be part of the project where we will engrave their names, digitally and physically, onto a metal plate according to the category. We will also publish their names on our social media at the end of the campaign”, she added.

Here are the two categories:

Category 1: RM1 to RM250

All contributors’ names will be digitally-coded into a microchip and attached together with the payload. Contributors will get a boarding pass to HEBAT’S ROCKET LAUNCH as sign of gratitude towards their contributions.

Category 2: RM250 and above

All contributors’ names will be engraved onto a metal plate and placed in the payload bay, inside the rocket. Contributors will get a boarding pass to HEBAT’S ROCKET LAUNCH as sign of gratitude towards their contributions.

“Due to the high cost of travelling, we might not be able to bring all of our team members to the SA CUP 2022, if we do not achieve our financial goal.”

“We hope Malaysians will come forward to support us. Your support and contributions will be our strength and motivation to win this competition. We will make our university and nation proud!”

To make a contribution to Team Wau Rocketry’s journey to the SA CUP 2022, do head on over to their crowdfunding page.

A little can go a long way and as Team Wau Rocketry would say it, “A dream you dream alone is only a dream. A dream you dream together is a reality.”

So let’s come together to make this dream into a reality.

Stay tuned for more updates on Team Wau Rocketry!
