The Mydin Managing Director, Datuk Dr Ameer Ali Mydin, is currently clapping back at Member of Parliament (MP) for Kota Melaka, Khoo Poay Tiong, over his statement that the former is celebrating earnings from the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) programme by dancing in social media videos.

Taking to MYDIN’s X page, Datuk Dr Ameer Ali Mydin took a funny swipe at the MP and explained why the MP’s statement is wrong, as he believes the SARA aid can also be spent with small vendors.

“Greetings, YB. Thank you for watching Mydin’s TikToks. Alhamdulillah, thank you to the MADANI government for helping the people with the SARA aid; vendors are also impacted positively. But, YB said that we are happy, earning a lot and dancing about it. That is a bad assumption, YB,”

“I, myself, have always said that the government should help small vendors. If (SARA aid is not spent) with Mydin, it is also okay to (spend it) with small traders. If YB wants to know who the biggest trader receiving the benefit of SARA is, maybe YB should mention that company in Parliament. Why are you only mentioning Mydin?” he asked.

He said it before

In his video, he showcased a clip of himself on Malaysia Gazette’s podcast, where he encouraged the government to assist small vendors by including them in a system where they can accept SARA aid, and that the government can disallow big businesses from accepting SARA aid.

“(In regards to the) SARA aid, I’m not saying Mydin doesn’t want it; but as much as possible, and I think this is the hidden objective of the government, as much as possible, the government should have all small vendors placed in a system so that they can accept SARA aid,”

“And who knows, the next day, the government can say ‘I’m sorry, hypermarkets that trade in the billions, there’s no need (for you to accept SARA aid)‘,” he said.

He ended the video with a hilarious clip of himself dancing.

Where this all started

This comes after Khoo brought up Datuk Dr Ameer Ali Mydin’s dancing videos in Dewan Rakyat while claiming that he is dancing because he is earning big money from the SARA aid.

“Today, Mydin’s big boss, he is so happy because he heard that there’s SARA aid, all the recipients will go to (Mydin) to make their purchases. They’ll receive RM100, but they’ll buy things worth more than RM100, they’ll go to Mydin to make their purchases.”

“So, the Mydin boss is so happy that he’s doing TikToks dancing here and dancing there, because his business is good.”
