It’s a known fact that Asian parents have high expectations for their children especially in when it comes to academic results and co-curriculum, which is why we’re truly surprised by this father’s heartwarming action.

A father surnamed Chow recently went viral on social media after he posted a video of him celebrating his son’s results. However, instead of celebrating good marks that a typical Asian parent would expect, Chow was actually celebrating the fact that his son scored seven marks in his exam. This inspiring incident happened in Suqian city of China.

According to Sinchew, the young father who works in the cement industry said that seven per cent is considered a huge achievement in his book because his son had been getting zero marks in the past examinations. So, the father decided to reward his son by throwing a fireworks display for him.

On that day, the father came home with a car full of fireworks and brought the son to a vacant land before lighting them up. The fireworks had cost the father around 1,000 Yuan (approx. RM600) and the show went on for 10 minutes. Pew pew pew!

His neighbours got curious and went ahead to ask what was the occasion. That’s when Chow said that his 11-year-old son had scored seven marks in the examination. He even recorded a short video which went incredibly viral online.

Chow revealed that because of the fireworks reward, his son is now more motivated than ever and would take the initiative to learn. In fact, the kid has even scored 57 marks in his recent examination! Seeing that, Chow reckoned that the money spent on the fireworks was well-spent. The proud father even jokingly said that he can’t handle his son anymore and that it’s time for him to get married.

Hopefully, more parents can look up to this man and realise that all achievements, no matter how small, deserve to be celebrated.

How did your parents celebrate your achievements as a kid? Tell us in the comments!
