Lady Who Turned 107 Years Old Said That Her Secret To Long Life Is Never Getting Married

When you ask someone what’s their secret to a long life, the cliche answers you normally get are eating healthily and exercising regularly but one lady gave a rather surprising answer.

A woman who just turned 107 years old (yes, you read the number right) said that her secret to a long life is…wait for it – never getting married. 

CBS New York wrote that Louise Signore who had her birthday party in July at the JASA Bartow Senior Centre, New York was born in Manhattan in 1912, but she grew up in the Bronx (where JLo is from) where she has lived since she was 14 years old.

The bubbly lady clad in pink has an endearing sense of humour and her endless jokes seem to entertain all her friends in the senior centre. Her friend, Deborah Whitaker, said that Louise is as strong as she can get. Deborah was quoted as saying,

“She’s got no walking cane, no wheelchair. She does all her shopping. She’s awesome.”

“I think that her connection with her neighbours in the community and also her friends here at the senior centre help to keep her going,” said Aisha Parillon, the senior director of JASA’s senior services.

The proud Italian woman revealed that she still dances every day and plays bocce, which is an Ancient Rome game involving balls. Louise also said that she lives alone and it is actually the main key to less stress in her life. Point taken! 

Louise said,

“I think the secret of 107: I never got married. I think that’s the secret. My sister says ‘I wish I never got married’.”

“If they have exercise, I do the exercise. If they dance, I dance. I still do a little dancing. After my lunch, I will play bingo, so I had a full day.”

TBH, she’s really inspiring!

However, her longevity isn’t a coincidence because it runs in the family, as her sister is 102 years old. Louise proudly revealed that her younger sister doesn’t even take any sort of medication, but she (Louise) takes the high blood pressure pill.

Having said that, longevity in life comes with its own set of challenges, of which Louise has had her fair share. She’s legally blind and recently, she fought through pneumonia.

Not only that, as when she was 103, Louise survived an assault and robbery in her apartment. Nevertheless, the challenges that she faced never brought down her spirit and will to live because, until today, Louise strives to live her best life.

Lastly, another secret to her youth is good food. As cliche as it may sound, good food can ensure longevity in life and for Louise, it’s particularly Italian food.

She shared: “Italian food. Italian food is very good for you. I was brought up with very good food. No soda, no cake.” Except for when it’s her birthday though! ?

Louise is actual #goals because her radiant smile shows that she’s content and happy with how her life has turned out. I aspire to be just like Louise because she doesn’t take life too seriously.
