For many of us, our graduation ceremonies were something right out of a nightmare of getting dressed in musty old graduation robes and waiting around for hours.

Perhaps to unburden their students from such a boring tradition, one Japanese university decided to allow their students to wear or dress however they pleased for their graduation. And boy, let us tell you, the results are insane.

Comedian Dwarf Mamba took to his Facebook page to showcase images from the ceremony, where many graduating students decided to attend in cosplay.

He wrote, “Kyoto University allows students to wear whatever they want to their graduation ceremony.”

Here are just some of the best and funniest costumes from the graduation ceremony:

That totem pole must have been insanely heavy to carry around!

And we must say, our favourites so far have to be the guy who dressed as Jim Carrey’s The Mask and grown up E.T. who looks like it had a really tough life.

It’s truly amazing to see a higher education institution allowing their students to express their creativity and individuality as they please.

No wonder Kyoto University has been ranked 68th among 1,799 universities from all over the world!

Would you like to see Malaysian higher education institutes implement this unique approach to graduation ceremonies? Do feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section!
