Many Malaysians love to eat in the car as it saves time. However, when they’re done with it, they would conveniently roll down the windows and throw the plastic wrapper out just like that.

According to a netizen by the name of Sharifah, littering may be one of the causes behind the floods this time.

In a Twitter thread that has been retweeted more than 15,000 times, she says:

“This is why you shouldn’t throw rubbish irresponsibly, the authorities say the cause of the Kuchai Lama floods is because the drains were clogged with rubbish.”

She explained that people are not forced to go to the extent of recycling but rather, they should keep their own rubbish with them until they are able to find a dustbin.

“Street cleaners can only do so much!”

Of course, it doesn’t discount the fact that there were also leaves that were clogging the drain but for the most part, it was rubbish.

Once the authorities picked up the garbage, the water started going down the drain.

It takes two hands to clap and there may have been mismanagement by the government, however, we also have a responsibility as citizens to keep our public places clean.

Sharifah told WORLD OF BUZZ that she believes we are responsible for our own waste.

“Things as small as a cigarette butt is no big deal when it really, actually is. Keep your rubbish with you until you find its place, the rubbish bin. Nothing too much to ask and nothing too hard to do.”

It really costs nothing to not litter. A good tip is to have a small rubbish bin in your car where you can throw your garbage.
