When the whole world went into lockdown amidst the Covid-19 pandemic, there were many surprising upsides.

One of them was the fact that the planet was healing thanks to us not being the busy bees that we were. Air pollution dropped, rivers got cleaner and there were barely any litter to be seen!

But, well, I guess we spoke too soon. Now that the lockdowns have been eased tremendously, people are back to their old ways. For instance, the KUANTAN Facebook page took to their profile to showcase how badly Pantai Sepat, Kuantan was littered now that we’re free to go about as we used to.

Litter 1

After all, it really isn’t that hard to just throw your own rubbish into a dustbin yet Malaysians still continue to live by the ‘someone else will do it for me’ culture, which is also apparent at fast-food restaurants (where you’re supposed to clean up after yourself).

Litter 2

If we can adapt to the new normal of wearing masks and social distancing, we should also be able to easily adjust our lifestyles and mindsets to include at least a little bit of concern for mother nature and how we’re treating our planet.

We genuinely hope that the authorities enforce more no littering laws to prevent behaviour like this from escalating.
