A few months ago, the announcement of a stray cat park in Klang concerned Malaysians as they worried that people would take advantage of the park by dumping their pets there.

Now that the park has opened, a netizen alleged that the stray cats there were not being taken care of and some were even dead!

Following this, the Klang Royal City Council (MBDK), which is in charge of the park, denied these accusations while adding that the Mayor of Klang, Datin Paduka Noraini Roslan, is rather satisfied with how the park is being maintained.

Taking to their Facebook page, they wrote, “The Royal Klang City Council (MBDK) denies any oppression, neglect and mistreatment at the Taman Kucing Klang, which has gone viral on social media since yesterday (September 1).”

“The Mayor of Klang, Tpr Datin Paduka Noraini Roslan shared that her party had taken the allegations seriously and after conducting a walkthrough, she was satisfied with the level of cleanliness and comfort there. According to her, some improvements will be made by the Council soon concerning the hot conditions in the evenings for the comfort of the cats.”

Datin Paduka Noraini Roslan also addressed the allegations.

“I appreciate the public’s concern in regards to this issue, but some of the things being shared are not true at all, especially the claims that the cats are hungry and abandoned,”

“In fact, the claim that a large number of cats have died is also untrue and only one has died since (the park’s) operation (it was placed outside the park by an unknown individual), after I myself had conducted a walkthrough this morning (September 2),” she said.

Regarding the improvements, nettings will be installed to provide shade during the hot weather and a porch will be built for the comfort of the cats.

Additional nutritional care will also be provided to the stray cats that call the park home.

“We plan to collaborate with volunteers who are interested in cat care since the community’s support for the Cat Park is so positive and spirited,” she added.
