Former Health Minister, Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar has filed a defamation suit at the Kuala Lumpur High Court, against UMNO Sungai Besar Division Chief, Datuk Seri Jamal Md Yunos, in regards to a press conference that was held during the 2022 UMNO General Assembly last January.

According to a report by Astro Awani, this is in relation to allegations that the party imported outside delegates to vote for the first and second positions, uncontested.

Khairy Jamaluddin, better known as KJ, as the plaintiff; submitted the suit last Wednesday (May 24) through the law firm, Mr. Aizat Izuan Shakeel, naming Jamal as the defendant and has demanded special damages of RM1 million.

He also requested an order for the defendant to publish an apology on all of his social media accounts as well as major Malay, English and Chinese newspapers, while also deleting the defamatory statement from all social media accounts.

In his statement of claim, KJ said that during the PAU 2022 on January 14, Jamal held a press conference at the World Trade Center (WTC) in Kuala Lumpur, that was attended by media practitioners, UMNO representatives, as well as members and leaders of the party.

The plaintiff alleged that Jamal uploaded the recording of the conference, titling it as ‘I hope Khairy Jamaluddin is prosecuted by the UMNO Disciplinary Board after issuing reckless and embarrassing statements to UMNO #UMNOThenNowAndForever’ on his social media accounts on January 14 and 15.
