It is no secret that rendang is one of Southeast Asia’s most recognised dish, and every time a famous figure piles on the praise on this beloved dish, we can’t help but feel a little proud inside.

And the latest public figure to join in the rendang bandwagon this time is world-famous singer Katy Perry!

Getting her first taste of rendang and pulut kuning in a “Hot n Cold” themed episode of MasterChef Australia here is her reaction towards the dish.

Based on the theme of “Hot n Cold”, contestants were required to come up with a variety of dishes that circle around incredible spicy flavours.

In the episode, Malaysian-born chef Poh Ling Yeow prepared a dish of rendang and pulut kuning, in which Katy tasted during the meal prep.

Not being able to handle the spices, Katy commented, “Oh yeah, I can feel that.” while coughing as the spices hit her palate.

This left Poh in shock, when she then asked herself, “Have I put in too much spice?” ‘Adding’ more salt to the wound, Katy Perry turned to fellow host Melissa Leong and said “Poh is trying to kill me, literally!”

Jokes aside, towards the end of the episode, Katy eventually commended and expressed her love for the dish, which she likened to a Mexican Burrito because of how it was presented.

The other three judges also gave positive remarks to Poh’s dish, praising the taste, texture and combination of the dish.

Now we want some rendang too!
