Having been unable to pay their rent for about 8 months, a couple was evicted from their flat in Taman Bukit Kenangan, Kajang, and are forced to live in an abandoned car at the flat’s parking lot by the building’s rubbish collection area.

According to a report by China Press, residents of the building were unaware of the couple’s relationship as the woman had been living there for 2 years while the man only joined her 1 year ago.

Due to alleged rent arrears, the couple and their belongings were thrown out of the flat unit, causing them to use the abandoned car and the stairwell of the flats as their storage and living quarters.

Considering the hygiene issues, the residents of the flats later reported this incident to the Kajang local council as well as the welfare department.

Though, in a twist of events, a resident shared that the man was arrested by police officers out of suspicion of drug use while the woman has refused help from those living there.

What makes this worse is that the woman, while still heading to work at a restaurant, would bring back more items, causing the piles of their belongings to become bigger and bigger. The man, on the other hand, has been in and out of work and has apparent health issues.

The Kajang local council has since told the couple to clear out their items. The authorities also offered to help them look for another place to stay.

“The Welfare Department can arrange accommodation for the 2 of them, but they cannot pay for their rent. The couple will have to pay their rent themselves and they will not be allowed to move.”

“It’s no use calling for state legislators for help as they are refusing help from others,” the resident added.

We genuinely hope that the couple will reconsider their stance in not getting help that they need.
