Japanese YouTuber couple, iChang RM and her partner Jimmy, who are avid fans of Malaysia and have been living here for 2 years are unfortunately leaving our country.

Locals also fell in love with the duo through their videos showcasing them cooking Malaysian foods and even handing out free nasi lemak in Hong Kong during Ramadhan.

In a heartbreaking video shared to YouTube, they explained that they had reached their 180 days tourist visa limit.

“The tourist visa for Japanese passport holders, we’re allowed to stay 90 days per visit and 180 days annually. That’s the rule for Japanese visitors, in Malaysia as tourists,”

“And tomorrow, we’re going to leave Malaysia because we’re reaching this 180 days rule. So, we have to leave Malaysia,” Jimmy shared.

They’ve even tried government initiatives to stay in Malaysia but unfortunately, it just didn’t work out.

“Last October, Malaysia announced a program called ‘DE Rantau Nomad Pass’. When we heard about it, we were so happy. We were like ‘this is for us, this is it!‘. ‘Digital Creator’ is also part of the program too so, we were very excited,”

“We applied as soon as possible. And we went back to Japan, collected all the documents. And then went back to Malaysia again and submitted. But it seems that it’s taking a longer time. It’s a new thing, it’s a new program in Malaysia so it’s taking a lot longer than expected,” Jimmy added.

The whole time, iChang could barely hold back tears of heartbreak from having to leave Malaysia.

Locals have since left messages of appreciation for the duo, for helping them fall in love with Malaysia again but this time, through the eyes of foreigners.

It is truly saddening to know that the duo has to leave Malaysia after all the amazing content they’ve created in and about Malaysia. We genuinely hope that they get their visas sorted and can come back quickly!
