The Minister of Transport, Anthony Loke was recently invited to Khairy Jamaludin’s podcast, and he had a lot to share with the listeners.

When asked why Anthony chose DAP in his political career over the Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA), he was blunt about it – he didn’t like MCA.

“It’s like a taukeh party”

Anthony joined DAP when he was only 17. He decided to join because the party has the reputation of being fair and ALWAYS standing up for the oppressed. Anthony then revealed that he respects Barisan Nasional (BN) and shared why MCA was not his ultimate choice.

“It has a reputation of not prioritising the people’s needs, especially the Chinese community. It’s like a ‘taukeh’ party for the rich or anyone who has high standing in the community.”

Anthony highlighted that it was neither right nor wrong; it was merely the perception he got from the party.

“I joined DAP at its lowest but Lim Kit Siang convinced me”

In the meantime, Anthony also said that the party was not at its best when he joined DAP. MCA was in the limelight during that time, but Lim Kit Siang convinced him that DAP was the right place despite only getting paid RM2,000 per month.

“Lim Kit Siang has the image of fighting for justice and fairness. DAP will always be there for the oppressed, that was what drew me closer to the party.”
