An Indonesian man died while in police custody after he was arrested for behaving aggressively and attacking a police officer in Taman Bukit Jambul, Penang.

According to a report by Harian Metro, the acting Penang Police Chief, Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin, shared that the police received a call from the public about a man behaving aggressively while brandishing an iron rod in a residential area on Sunday (August 3).

Heart Attack 1

When the police officers arrived at the scene and confronted the suspect, he allegedly became violent.

“During the struggle, the suspect allegedly punched one of the police officers who arrived at the scene. A nearby resident who witnessed the struggle helped the police to arrest and subdue the man,” he said.

2 separate reports have been made against the suspect, namely for his actions of breaking a car window and trespassing into a flat unit.

The Indonesian man was taken to the Sungai Nibong Police Station for further action, though while in custody there, he suddenly fainted.

“He was rushed to a nearby hospital but was confirmed dead on arrival. The cause of death was confirmed to be a heart attack, and the case has been classified as a sudden death,”

“Further investigations are being conducted to find out the deceased’s identity and whether he lived in the area,” he added.
