(UPDATED) IKEA Cheras Closed After Co-Workers & Service Partners Test Positive For Covid-19

IKEA Cheras has closed their store today, 19 February, after multiple co-workers and service partners have tested positive for COVID-19.

IKEA took to their official Facebook page to make the announcement as well as providing the necessary information on the matter.

Based on their statement, the last working days of these workers who have tested positive for the virus was between 8 – 14 February 2021.

All of them are now undergoing self-quarantine until further notice from the authorities.

IKEA stressed that their top priority would be the health, safety and well-being of their staffs, partners, customers and community. Hence, they have decided to close the store (19 February) to undergo the necessary sanitisation and full contact tracing in accordance with the Ministry of Health’s (MOH) standards.

“All our co-workers who were in close contact have already been placed on home quarantine and completed Covid-19 swab tests. Customers who have further enquiries or need more information, please call MOH’s Crisis Preparedness and Response Center’s (CPRC) hotline: 03-8881 0200/0600/0700,” they said in their post.

They also added that they are working closely with the authorities and will act based on their advice. IKEA also mentioned that they will continue to carry out all necessary safety measures including replacement of co-workers, contact tracing, swab tests, quarantine for all close contacts and sanitisation.

“The fight against Covid-19 pandemic is a shared responsibility. Let’s do our part by supporting and following the Government’s directions to prevent the further spread of the virus,” they said in the statement.

UPDATE: IKEA has released a second announcement stating their Cheras store will resume operations beginning at 4pm today, 19 February.
