A Malaysian woman has begun to question her boyfriend’s love after her 30th birthday celebration failed to meet her expectations.

For months, she had been hinting that an iPhone 17 was at the top of her wishlist. However, while she did receive a new device for her milestone birthday, it was a far cry from what she had envisioned.

The woman took to the internet to vent her frustration after receiving a smartphone that cost “only” slightly over RM1,000.

“I would have said yes to marrying him if he got what I wanted”

Sharing her story anonymously, the woman revealed she had intended to marry her boyfriend if the birthday celebration lived up to her hopes. She had been using an iPhone 14, which was also a gift from him, and felt it was time for an upgrade.

Her expectations were further heightened when her partner reminded her to dress up for the occasion. Recounting the evening, she shared:

“I thought there would be a surprise. I thought he would understand what I wanted.

“Instead, he only arranged a candlelight dinner. I got angry, slammed the phone onto the ground, and left.”

Having second thoughts

Following the outburst, the woman ignored the man’s messages for several days to reflect on the relationship. She expressed doubts about his feelings, believing that if his love were genuine, he would have done everything in his power to provide her desired gift.

“My peers receive branded gifts from their husbands, and they often travel overseas. I am so envious of them,” she lamented.

In an attempt to reconcile, the man eventually apologised and presented her with a wedding ring, revealing that he had been planning to propose that night.

Unfortunately, the woman now feels she has too many lingering doubts about their compatibility and his level of commitment to move forward with the engagement.
