A primary school student from Liaoning Province, China was commended by his school and the police after he surrendered about 260,000 yuan (about RM164,000) that he found on the roadside. But the owner of the money denied that he lost any money and said, “I do not lack any money”.

According to Oriental Daily, the boy was on the way home from school with his mother when he noticed a bag hanging on a railing. Curiosity got the best of him and he decided to climb the railing to retrieve the bag.

“The bag is quite big, as big as my upper body!” he exclaimed.

His mother wanted to stop him but the boy had already taken the bag down.

“Mum! Look at it, it’s full of money!” the boy shouted.

The boy’s mother was shocked at the sight of the bag full of banknotes and decided to wait for the owner to return the money where they found it. She even called her husband and brother to wait with them. However, after waiting for more than an hour, the owner did not show up.

The family then decided to call the police.

After receiving the report, the local police station immediately sent officers to retrieve the lost-and-found money, and after counting the banknotes, the total amounted up to 260,000 yuan (RM164,000).

The police tried to look for clues after inspecting the CCTV in the area but could not find any. Eventually, they found the banker’s seal on the banknotes and finally found the owner.

Upon contacting the owner, the owner denied that he had lost money, and even said that he “did not lack any money.”

The police then contacted the man’s parents and found out that the money was compensation for the demolition of a house. In the end, the man’s parents went to the police station to go through the formalities and claimed back the lost-and-found money.

Meanwhile, the boy was praised by the school for his act of integrity. Known for being mischievous and always getting into trouble, he became a good example for the whole school which made his parents very proud.
