A good samaritan’s attempt to help accident victims ended in tragedy when he died from being hit by a car at Kilometer 69.2 of the Karak-Kuala Lumpur Highway heading towards Kuala Lumpur on Saturday (February 15).

In a statement by the Bentong District Police Chief, Superintendent Zaiham Mohd Kahar, he shared that the good samaritan, 47-year-old Tan Wing Foo, had died at 7pm while receiving treatment at Bentong Hospital, following the accident at 5:30pm.

“Initial investigations found that a car was travelling from Kuantan towards Kuala Lumpur. Upon arriving at the scene, the car had skidded and entered a ditch,” he said.

The car crashed into 2 people

He went on to explain that several people passing by the area stopped to help the victims in the skidded car, including the deceased man. And while someone was controlling the traffic there, a car lost control and crashed into 2 people at the scene.

“As a result of the accident, 4 victims were sent to Bentong Hospital for treatment. One of the victims died while receiving treatment,” he added.

He has since also requested for eyewitnesses to come forward to assist in the investigations.

“We also would like to advise all road users to always be careful when helping accident victims. Contact the highway concessionaire or the emergency line if you are involved in or see an accident,” he said.

The deceased was a single father

Based on a report by Sin Chew Daily, the man who passed away was a single father who was solely caring for his 3 young daughters, aged 7, 9 and 11 respectively.
