Genki Sushi Malaysia proudly put another milestone in the books with the opening of its Johor Bahru outlet at the AEON Mall Tebrau City Food Hall, located on Level G of the mall, the brand’s first location outside the Klang Valley region. This marks a significant step in Genki Sushi’s southern expansion as it strengthens its presence in one of Malaysia’s fastest-growing markets.

To add to this progress, the outlet has also attained Halal certification from the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM), reflecting the brand’s ongoing commitment to growth and inclusivity.

Celebrations were in order!

To commemorate this achievement, Genki Sushi hosted a special celebratory ceremony at its AEON Mall Tebrau City outlet, welcoming guests and media representatives to celebrate the meaningful welcoming into a new Malaysian state. The event was graced by members of Genki Sushi Japan’s senior management, including Yoshiko Soga, Franchise Business Department General Manager; Kazuaki Suzuki, Manager FC Business, Global Business Division; Masashi Ogawa, Assistant Manager, Franchise Business;  Bintang Satrio, Malaysian Market Auditor, Franchise Business; as well as Law Hwee Ching, Country Head of Genki Sushi Malaysia.

“Since opening here in Aeon Tebrau, we have felt the warm welcome from the people, and what makes today even more special is also the fact that this Johor Bahru outlet has successfully attained the official Halal certification by JAKIM. For us, this achievement is a symbol of our promise to serve every guest with the same freshness, innovation, and heartfelt Japanese hospitality that define Genki Sushi. It is also a representation of Maxim’s commitment of connecting people with great food,” said Patrick Kwok, General Manager, Maxim’s Malaysia.

Yoshiko Soga, General Manager, Franchise Business Department of Genki Sushi Co. Ltd, added, “This opening holds great significance for us. This newest Genki Sushi outlet is our 227th store worldwide under the Genki Sushi brand. As mentioned, it is our 6th store in Malaysia, and we are especially proud to finally establish a presence here in Johor Bahru with this first store!”
