A 54-year-old taxi driver in Pattaya, Thailand, recently lodged a police report on a foreign passenger who tried to pay for his remaining ride fare with a packet of cannabis instead of cash.

The driver, known as Prachuap, reported the incident to Muang Pattaya police at 1.36am local time yesterday (15 July), which was confirmed by the Deputy Superintendent of Investigation, Pol Col Chanan Keornbua.

According to the Thai-based publication Bangkok Post, the foreign passenger and taxi driver agreed on a THB2,000 or RM261 fare for a ride from Suvarnabhumi airport in Bangkok to a hotel in Pattaya. The foreigner said that his wife would pay for the fare when they arrived at the destination.

As soon as they reached the hotel in Pattaya, the foreign passenger gave the driver THB900 (RM118) in cash. Soon after, his wife came outside to see him and said that she only had THB50 (RM7).

The taxi driver then asked for the remaining THB1,050 (RM137) that was still owed, to which the couple said they had no money. They then offered the taxi driver a big packet of cannabis instead as payment.

The taxi driver refused and told the couple that he would report them to the police. This caused the couple to become angry, and they ran inside the hotel without paying.

That’s when he decided to lodge a police report on the couple. The taxi driver said that he had helped passengers who didn’t have enough money before, but this experience made him not want to help others in the future.
