I think we can all agree that council workers have one of the toughest jobs in Malaysia, mainly because they have to brave the rain and shine in order to keep the city clean.

Therefore, to appreciate the hard work these people put in every day, one briyani restaurant decided to treat them to a little feast in Little India, Georgetown in conjunction with Labour Day. Isn’t that nice!

The Star reports that Bite ‘N’ Eat Sdn Bhd partner J. Kapil Sharma was inspired by the efforts of the MBPP (Majlis Bandaraya Pulau Pinang) workers in keeping the streets clean, which helps bring in customers. So, he thought he would show them some appreciation by buying them dinner! Sharma was quoted as saying,

“We have been in Penang Street for more than a year and we noticed their dedication. By keeping the area clean all day long also helps in bringing in the customers. We thought to show our appreciation by treating them to a briyani dinner at our restaurant.”

A total of 31 council workers showed up for their appreciation dinner but sadly, another 30 of them couldn’t make it. However, to ensure that they weren’t left out, the restaurant packed food, which included the dishes eaten by those present there, for them.

FYI, the restaurant served the workers their popular Dindugal briyani, which comes from Dindugal, Tamil Nadu.

Following the dinner treat, MBPP Urban Services Department’s director, Mubarak Junus, expressed his gratitude to the restaurant and praised them for their kindness.

He also hopes that other private companies will take a page out of Bite ‘N’ Eat Dindugal Biriyani‘s book and organise more events like the above as “part of their corporate social responsibility”.

This is actually a very kind gesture that should be adopted by everyone because sometimes, we need to take the time to appreciate people whose hard work often goes unnoticed!
