Australia is not always thought of in the history of whisky productions that has been dominated by the Europeans, and more recently, the Japanese. In fact, in the 1960s, Australia was one of the highest producing whisky countries in the world. Australia made exceptional whisky that was loved both here and abroad, winning multiple international accolades.

What they achieved, however, worried other whisky-producing countries. The Europeans sought a different strategy, they began to purchase Australian whisky companies and blended it with their own, slowly pushing Australian brands to the side.

Changes in import tariffs and excise put the final nail in the coffin and cast Australia’s rich whisky history into the darkness.

Top Shelf International (TSI) is a Melbourne-based distiller and marketer of premium spirits, as well as the First Australian Whisky distiller. TSI is building a portfolio of generational premium spirit brands, NED Whisky, that capture the best of Australia’s daring spirit with every sip.

Ned 2

Ned Kelly, (December 1854 – 11 November 1880), was an Australian bushranger and gang leader. One of the last bushrangers, he is known for wearing a suit of bulletproof armour during his final shootout with the police.

Ned Kelly was a hero before his untimely death. He was devoted to his family, as he committed his crimes to keep them out of poverty, as well as making many sacrifices to keep them out of trouble. Ned also contributed in helping out unprivileged people out of his generosity and kindness.

In June 1880, after several encounters with the police and robberies, the gang took possession of Glenrowan township, where they were besieged by police. Kelly was wounded and captured in the ensuing fray; his fellow gang members were killed. Later that year he was taken to Melbourne jail, where he was hanged.

Ned 3

Taking the best from American bourbon and Scottish single malt production, NED is a quintessentially Australian whisky made for one and all, with smooth, bold and full rich flavour.

TSI uses 100% Australian grain, aged in oak barrels from the United States, and then brewed and made the great NED Whisky under famous Melbourne weather.

The innovative brewing techniques create the unique taste of NED Whiskey; it does not contain any additives, and each batch of production is individually coded, which is conducive to the traceability and exclusivity of the source of supply.
