The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has opened an investigation into an image of a Member of Parliament (MP), who is also a ‘Datuk’, for allegedly flouting the standard operating procedures (SOPs) of the MCO.

According to a report by Astro Awani, the image of the MP went viral as he was showcased sitting cross-legged on a table while having tea and chit-chatting in regards to an assistance programme.

Many have condemned the actions of the MP as Kedah is currently undergoing Phase 1 of the National Rehabilitation Plan (PPN), which does not allow any form of public gathering.

The Kedah Police Chief, Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat shared that his department has opened an investigation into the case under the Infectious Diseases Prevention and Control Regulations (PPDPP) 2020.

“Police are tracking down several witnesses to complete the investigation paper,” he said.

We genuinely hope that the authorities take the appropriate action against the MP if he is found to be guilty.
