Just yesterday, netizens were in an uproar over PDRM escorting luxury cars on tow trucks while dangerously using an oncoming traffic lane on a double line road at high speeds.

Now, PDRM has responded.

Kelantan police confirmed the video of the incident, of a police vehicle escorting two tow trucks and a pick-up truck cutting across the double line, which happened yesterday on Jalan Gua Musang-Kota Bharu.

According to Kosmo, Acting Kelantan Police Chief, Datuk Muhamad Zaki Harun explained that the escort vehicle had given enough warnings by sounding sirens and turning on emergency lights for other road users to see.

He shared that the public is confused regarding the matter because the vehicle had made valid movements according to instructions to accompany the three vehicles.

“The public’s question about the viral video is that the escort car was being dangerous. In fact, the escort car carried out the task of organising and controlling according to Section 21 of the Police Act 1967 which is their task on public roads,”

“This means that other road users need to cooperate by either slowing down, giving way to escort cars or stopping to prevent something from happening. Escort vehicles have their own rules and they cannot be arbitrary because they are on duty. I do not blame anyone, but many may still be confused by the matter,” he said.

Muhamad Zaki added that he hopes road users will always cooperate when faced with police escorts on the road, and that this is because the task of these escort vehicles are not like that of other road users.
