Christmas is called the most wonderful time of the year for a reason. After all, who doesn’t like presents and food, right?! For many, the festive season is all about feasting to your heart’s content. And that’s exactly what we did when our friends at Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa invited WORLD OF BUZZ to partake in their joyous “Let’s Get Crackin’ Christmas Feast”.
From mouth-watering Chargrilled Tomahawk Steak and Christmas Canapés to a wide range of delectable desserts, we stuffed ourselves silly like true Malaysians! And no, we don’t regret a second of it. #noragrets
We were genuinely blown away by the offerings that were available and also managed to try out a couple of dishes we weren’t familiar with as well! Thankfully, we had our fat pants on because we definitely ate more than we could. Read on to find out what we loved most from this sumptuous feast.
The appetising starters which teased our taste buds with their unique flavours
Just like any good buffet, we started our grand Christmas feast with a delectable set of appetisers, which not only prepped our tummies for the main course but also left us craving for more. Here’s one that we enjoyed the most:
Traditional Scandivanian Beetroot Cured Salmon Gravlax
We began the buffet with a popular Scandinavian dish, Beetroot Cured Salmon Gravlax which came served with salad and manuka honey mustard dressing.
Verdict: We thoroughly enjoyed this as it was the first time any of us had tried a traditional Scandivanian dish. Noteworthily, we felt that the addition of the Manuka Honey complimented the dish well by building upon the savoury flavour of the salmon with the sweetness from the honey.
The tantalising flavours of Traditional Roasted Turkey, Spiced Lamb Leg, and Chargrilled Tomahawk Steak
We’re going to go right ahead and say that we couldn’t stop ourselves when it came to the meat section, which featured must-have Christmas specials such as two types of Roasted Turkey (Traditional Roasted Turkey and Roasted Tandoori Briyani Turkey).
Aside from these, there were also mouthwatering dishes like the Chargrilled Tomahawk Steak and Roasted Whole Lamb Leg (on rotation basis), which are available at The Resort Cafe at Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa throughout the festive dining period.
We can honestly say that the culinary team put in a lot of effort into preparing these dishes so kudos to Executive Chef Peter Lee and the rest of the team for putting up such a splendid feast for us to enjoy!
Here are four dishes which stood out for us:
1. Chargrilled Tomahawk Steak
A quick chat with one of the chefs revealed that the steak gets its Tomahawk name from resembling a single-handled axe due to the extra inches of rib bone which is “frenched” (removing the meat off the bone) to expose the bone. TBH, we were quite impressed by the presentation of the Tomahawk steak as we’ve never seen a dish displayed in such a manner. We’re sure you would concur by looking at these photos alone.
Verdict: In terms of taste, we loved how tender the steak was and its juicy flavours were simply divine. We also paired it with some sauces which were prepared in-house but frankly speaking, the steak was good enough to be enjoyed as it is.
2. Hearty Traditional Roasted Turkey
Let’s face it, no Christmas feast is complete without a sumptuous roasted whole turkey. Luckily for us, we had our fair share during the feast. This traditional Christmas special was truly a delight and we appreciated every bite of it as roasted turkey is a pretty uncommon dish in Malaysia.
Verdict: We paired it with a dabble of cranberry sauce which complimented the turkey, adding a tinge of sweetness to it. Overall, we thought the turkey was well-roasted and had loads of juicy flavours that were very welcomed by our taste buds.
3. Succulent Roasted Tandoori Turkey with Briyani
This was a creative twist to a classic Christmas dish, one which we did not expect to thoroughly enjoy until we gave it a taste.
Verdict: What we loved most about this dish was that it gave the turkey a wider range of flavours due to the spices used in preparing the tandoori styled turkey and Briyani rice. #combowin
4. Mouthwatering Roasted Whole Lamb Leg
Aside from the three previous dishes, the roasted lamb leg with herbs also proved to be a hit among us.
Verdict: We enjoyed this dish as the meat was both tender and juicy at the same time. The combination of herbs used also gave the dish a more pronounced full-bodied flavour which we loved.

The delectable spread of Christmas canapés and sugary treats
Tell us you’ve seen a wider spread of desserts and you’re wrong! From Christmas canapés and cakes to cookies and sweets — we sure had our fill of sugary treats at the buffet, which might have given us a sugar rush throughout the day.
In case you’re wondering, here’s what we had:
- Chocolate Yule Log Cake
- Ice cream with biscuit crumbs, meringue and berries
- Strawberry shortcake
- Fruit Flan Cake
- Christmas Nutty Fruit Cake
Verdict: The dessert table at The Resort Cafe was arguably the most extensive one we’ve seen to date. In particular, we couldn’t get enough of the ice cream and found the cakes to be moist and velvety, especially the Chocolate Yule Log Cake.
