Tactile pathways are designed to communicate safety information as well as give directions to those who are blind, have low vision or other vision impairments. This basically means that those who are visually differently-abled use tactile pathways to know where they were going.
With that being said, it is ridiculously dangerous for those who are blind or have low vision, if there is a random hole where tactile pathways are.
Malaysian couple, MrRanggaPnNadia, took to their joint TikTok account to share how Mr Rangga, who is blind, had fallen through an open drain hole that was directly on a tactile pathway in Kuala Lumpur.
Pn Nadia wrote, “I was surprised to hear a voice note from my husband telling me that he fell into a hole. Only Allah knows how I felt at that time. Thankfully, my husband said that nothing happened to him. He went to a clinic and the doctor said there was no fractures (they did an X-Ray).”
“May Allah continue to take care of and protect my husband. I humbly ask everyone, if you see a dangerous obstacle or hole on the tactile pathway (path for the blind), please help report it to the relevant authorities. Let’s provide safe tactile pathways for the visually-impaired. P.s. this is the area between Dataran Merdeka to Masjid Negara.”
In their video, an open drain hole could be seen directly on the tactile pathway.
This could have easily caused anyone who is visually differently-abled to fall in and get seriously injured.
Speaking with WORLD OF BUZZ, Pn Nadia confirmed that Mr Rangga is okay and only sustained mild injuries. You might remember Mr Rangga as the blind Malaysian who had to move a motorcycle off of a tactile pathway at an MRT station a while back.
Together, let’s do our part in ensuring our visually differently-abled brothers and sisters have safe tactile pathways by reporting any dangerous situations to the local authorities.
