The news about the Batang Kali landslide yesterday (December 16) shocked the nation and broke the hearts of many Malaysians as some of the victims did not make it.

Prime Minister Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim personally visited the scene last night around 9:45 pm, and aside from thanking the rescue team for their efforts, he also sent his condolences to the victims and the family members of the deceased. Not only that but Anwar also revealed that welfare assistance and financial aid will be given to the victims.

In his Instagram post last night, Anwar announced “a set” of immediate financial help for the victims, and here’s what they will receive,

  • RM10,000 for every deceased victim.
  • RM1,000 of Bantuan Wang Ihsan (BWI) to every victim who survived, which will be paid to the head of each household.

He also said that the state government will work closely with the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) and the Prime Minister’s Department of Malaysia (JPM) in handling the cash aid that will be given to the victims.

Last night, Deputy Prime Minister Zahid Hamidi also came down to the field to observe the scene where he revealed that a dozen more victims have yet to be found, and the number of casualties has gone up to 21.

Our prayers and condolences go to the victims and family members of the deceased. In the meantime, do avoid risky areas for your getaway as the monsoon season poses many lethal dangers.
