In this superficial society, many people would judge based on one’s outer appearance simply with what they wear and if they have any luxurious branded items on them. That being said, luxury items have been something many people want to get their hands on as it represents a certain societal class.
Just recently a Taiwanese man expressed his embarrassment towards his girlfriend due to the aforementioned issue of luxury. According to the girlfriend, she posted on Dcard saying that her boyfriend was unhappy that she didn’t bring along one of her branded bags when they went out.
“My boyfriend is someone who really likes branded goods. So, in order to make me feel like I’m ‘part of the elite group’, he has bought me a bag. The other day when we were out, he told me that there’s a gathering that we’d have to attend, and I didn’t have enough time to switch my bags”, she said.
She shared that after the dinner, her boyfriend kept nagging at her for not switching bags.
“Why didn’t you use the branded bag that I bought for you? Why do you want to use a bag that isn’t branded?”, he said.
She revealed that the reason she rarely uses the bag her boyfriend gifted her is because the bag is expensive and she’s afraid that she might dirty it.
She then ended her post mentioning that her boyfriend comes from a normal family but doesn’t understand why he cares so much about branded goods.
“Is a person’s ‘value’ really judged based on what they wear and the type of bags they use?”, she asked.
