Recently, a user on Weibo posted a series of pictures with her adoptive dad travelling around China. According to Sohu, a lady by the name Bai Ge shared her story of how she was adopted.

“Found an abandoned baby in a box at the roadside.”

“When I was born not long ago, I was left in a box by my birth parents and they left me at the roadside. Nobody knew who my birth parents were or why I was abandoned. Mr. Zhang (my adoptive dad) was coming home from work and saw many people crowding at the area. Out of curiosity, he went and check it out. That’s when he saw that there was an abandoned baby inside the box.”

“Everyone was discussing the matter, some were even curious as to why I was abandoned. The weather was really cold as we were still in the midst of transitioning into spring. Mr. Zhang couldn’t bear to see me suffer in the cold, so he carried me home.”

“He started looking around to see if there was any clue as to where I came from or when I was born, but my birth parents did not leave any clue,” she said.

Finding out why she was abandoned

“He has no experience in taking care of a baby so, he brought me to the residents’ committee and 2 women volunteered to take care of me while my adoptive dad went to work. He was persistent in finding out my birth story and why I was abandoned. As time passed, there was no news and finally, he understood.”

“He came to a conclusion that I was abandoned because I was a girl.”

“In China, especially back in the 90’s, the gender inequality issue was quite prominent as there was a rule that each family could only have 1 child,” she said.

“This is a picture of me when I was a baby.”

“I couldn’t do that to a child, to abandon her just because of her gender,” the dad said.

“I must adopt her.”

Mr. Zhang made up his mind and decided to adopt her. When he told the village chief about this, he was shocked. He advised against him from doing so.

“You’re 50 years-old and unmarried, it will be hard for you to find a partner if you bring her along,” the village chief said.

Despite the discouragement, Mr. Zhang was persistent in wanting to adopt her.

When Mr. Zhang adopted her, he named her Zhang Bai Ge which means white pigeon. He named her that in hopes that when she grows up, she can be as free as a bird and soar up high.

Successful CEO, but it comes with a price.

Fast forward many years later, Bai Ge was able to build a name for herself and was a successful business woman.

Unfortunately, she suffered from some health issues and had to have surgery performed.

That’s when she realized that he is getting older and she needs to make more time for him.

She then sold her company and decided to fulfill his lifelong wish of travelling around China.

“I know how hard he has worked to raise me and now I want to honour him by fulfilling his wishes,” she said.

What do you think of this gesture? Would you have sold your company to fulfill your family’s wishes?
