This mistake is just plain absurd…

According to Korea Herald, a gynecologist and a nurse were arrested by the Seoul Ganseo Police Station on Monday (Sept 23) for conducting abortion on the WRONG patient.

At first, the victim – a six weeks pregnant Vietnamese national – was prescribed for nutritional supplements. When she was sent to the operation room, both of the suspects did not take the extra length to verify the patient’s identity and carelessly mixed her up with a different patient’s medical charts.

The nurse then injected the patient with anesthesia after which the doctor performed an abortion to the victim according to the medical chart.

The victim then went home and after going through some bloody discharges, she returned to the hospital the next day to found out that her fetus had been aborted.

The gynecologist and the nurse were arrested and charged with professional negligence. They have failed to perform the proper procedure of confirming the patient’s identity before conducting the abortion.

According to the police, they can also be charged for abortion without consent but as the victim was not conscious and could not have expressed whether she agree or disagree with the abortion, the charges could not pass through.

Anyway, in most cases, abortion is still illegal in South Korea.

This is the kind of accident that we just can’t tolerate. To some people, conceiving a baby can be very hard and because of that, we hope that the victim will recover soon from this pain.
