8 Things Only Malaysians Who ‘Balik Kampung’ By Car For Chinese New Year Can Relate To

It’s that time of the year again. Where most of us will be heading back to our respective ‘kampung’ and munching on those sinfully delicious Chinese New Year treats!

But for all of us who ‘balik kampung’ by car, here are some of the things (mostly struggles) we’ll have to go through!

1. Waking up and departing from your home at an ungodly hour just to avoid the traffic jam

2. But once you miss the super early mornings, you’ll be greeted by the beautiful sight of a long line of car brake lights

It’s the festive season! What were you thinking for sleeping in!?

3. And when the radio stations keep playing the same song over and over again

“So, baby, pull me closer in the back se..”

*smashes radio*

4. What’s worse than any overplayed song is the loud festive Chinese New Year songs

DONG DONG DONG DONG QIANG~!

5. Getting butt cramps from the long journey

Sitting in that cramped space for hours definitely didn’t do anyone any good besides getting a sore butt.

6. That moment when the car stops by an R&R

Toilet break, food, drinks and junk food, check! Not to mention finally getting to shake off your cramped legs and butt.

7.  When a driver tries to overtake you

And they’ll still always end up behind you.

8. Of course, we must not forget the car karaoke sessions

‘Balik kampung’ for Chinese New Year will never be complete without belting out to your favourite (or even most hated) songs with your family… Unless you’re a single child. But even then, you still gotta own the music like no other.
