Their menu focuses mainly on meaty kebabs from the tandoor and spices from South India. Among their specialties are the fish molee and rich curries which originate from the Chettinad, Andhra Pradesh and Malabar coast which are surely to tickle your taste buds. The meat they serve, be it chicken or mutton, is succulent and tantalising which will leave you craving for more. Also, the spinach goat cheese curry is a must try here! GEM is considered as an Indian fine dining restaurant so the prices might be a little steep.

Tables are hard to come by in this restaurant and having to wait to be seated is a norm here. Its rightly so, as they serve among the best banana leaf rice in town and is pretty much well known among the locals and expats alike. Their side dishes such as the deep fried chilli chicken are top notch and the fried bitter gourd is addictive – which nobody can resist. The lassies are really refreshing too and goes very well with the banana leaf meal. Although it is a little pricey here, their excellent service and amazing food certainly does make up for it.

Address: 43 Jalan Telawi 3, Bangsar

Hours: 10.00am – 1.30am

Sotong

Kanna

With over three decades of experience in serving banana leaf rice, you can only expect the best from them (though they have replaced the actual leaf with just a green paper now). Their choice of food ranges from marinated seafood to mutton curry, fried squid, fish cutlets, deep fried chicken and an assortment of vegetable dishes. The best part is, you’ll get to flood your rice with their complementary ‘kari ketam’ (crab curry) which taste heavenly. The only word we can describe them is PERFECT! The price here is a little pricey though which is almost as similar to Sri Nirwana Maju.

Address: 29 Jalan 17/45, Section 17, Petaling Jaya

Hours: 7.00am – 10.00pm

8. Naga’s Restaurant

Iamthewitch

Famed for their briyani rice, Naga’s tops most Indian restaurants in terms of affordability. This self-serving restaurant serves foods ranging from South Indian Chettinad, North Indian to local delicacies. With their very own compound for parking, dining here is convenient and easy; allowing you to spend time on more important things – their food. The environment here is calm and very well ventilated which makes it a great spot to catch up with family or friends over good food. What’s even better is that they’re open 24 hours a day!
