Ever since the pandemic hit, many people would choose to purchase their items online as it is convenient and easy. With just a few clicks on your devices, you’ll be able to get the items you need delivered to your doorstep without having to waste time heading to the shops.

While it is convenient for everyone, there is no guarantee that the items will arrive safely. Over the years, there has been many cases where the items didn’t arrive as per description, or some were even straight up scammed.

Unfortunately for this 61-year-old man, he has become one of the victims of fraud. According to China Press, the man is currently residing in Singapore and has decided to make his first online purchase. As his TV was broken, he saw online that there’s a 32-inch TV for sale.

“The price listed for the TV was $138.49SGD (RM455.11) and I thought it was a steal. I purchased it and was happy as I thought I could finally watch TV again”, he said.

After waiting for 4 days, the man received a notification that his order has arrived. Upon checking, he realised that a pink parcel was addressed to him and when he opened it, it was a box of tissues.

“When I received the pink parcel, I was shocked and quickly went to check my order. I saw that there’s a Xiao Mi logo in the picture but when I read the description again, they wrote Xiao-Miss and that’s when I know it was a scam”, he added.

Following the incident, the man has mentioned that he has requested for a refund and according to platform policy and regulations, it may take up to 3 months for him to receive his refund. Fortunately, he was able to receive his refund yesterday through the platform he purchased.

However, the man was insisting that the news should be shared as he would like to use this incident as a reminder to the public to be wary when purchasing things online.

It’s always better to be careful when purchasing things online and we would urge you to head over to the physical stores when purchasing expensive items to avoid any disappointments. Have you ever experienced something similar? Let us know in the comments below.
