59yo Motorcyclist On His Way to Work Killed After Hitting Horse That Suddenly Crossed Road in Melaka

A man, who was on his way to work, died after hitting a horse that suddenly crossed the road at Jalan Sempang Bukit Kuda, Merlimau, Melaka, this morning (28 October) at about 7:10 AM.

The 59-year-old man, who works as a cleaner, unfortunately died at the scene.

According to a report by Sinar Harian, Acting Jasin District Police Chief Deputy Superintendent Nor Azlinda Nordin explained that initial investigations found that the victim, who was riding a motorcycle, was believed to have been travelling from the direction of Serkam towards Semujuk.

“However, upon arriving at the scene, the victim’s motorcycle is believed to have hit the animal that was crossing from the left side of the road. As a result of the collision, the victim suffered serious injuries and was confirmed dead at the scene,” he said.

The victim’s body has since been taken to the Jasin Hospital Forensic Unit for a post-mortem before his body can be claimed by family members.

 

The police are urging those with information to assist with the investigation

Investigations also found that there were no closed-circuit cameras (CCTVs) in the nearby area, though the police have located and spoken to the owner of the horse to assist with investigations.

Members of the public who have any information regarding this incident are asked to contact the Case Investigating Officer, Inspector Ahmad Aqil Yusoff, at 013-9393747, to provide assistance.

This case is still ongoing under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
