Considering how many water shortages there’s been lately, you would think that we would learn how to appreciate the body of waters that we have and that we would start to take extra care of them.

Well, we didn’t.

As according to Bernama, the Jabatan Alam Sekitar (JAS) is investigating a large oil spill that happened at Pantai Cermin, at Port Dickson. It is said that the oil spill covers a good three kilometers of the beach.

State Health, Environment, Cooperatives and Consumerism Committee chairman, S. Veerapan said that samples of the oil have been taken to their chemical department to identify the cause.

“We still have yet to find out the cause of the oil spill that happened by the beach. However, we do suspect that it could be from the engine of a vessel,” he said.

He also added that the process of cleaning up the beach has begun and that visitors should avoid the location until cleaning is properly completed.

It’s truly sad to see how badly nature is being treated. We genuinely hope they find the cause soon and take the necessary action to prevent oil spills from happening again.
