A 16-year-old Malaysian died after the car he was driving collided with a four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicle along Jalan Bukit Payong in Besut, Terengganu, on Thursday.
The accident, which occurred at around 12 PM on Thursday (28 May), claimed the life of Muhammad Azmil Hakimi Abdullah, who died at the scene due to severe injuries.

Suspect tests positive for ketamine
Besut District Deputy Police Chief, Deputy Superintendent Md Sani Md Saleh, said initial investigations revealed that the 4WD driver was under the influence of illegal substances. An initial urine screening test on the suspect returned positive for ketamine.
According to Md Sani, the police were alerted to the two-vehicle collision by members of the public, after which a team of officers was immediately deployed to the scene.
“The incident is believed to have occurred while the victim was driving within his own lane, before noticing an oncoming 4WD vehicle being driven erratically,” Md Sani explained.
“Upon reaching the location, the 4WD vehicle suddenly veered into the victim’s path.”

Md Sani added that the victim attempted to avoid the collision by steering into the opposite lane. However, the 4WD vehicle simultaneously veered back into its original lane, causing a head-on collision.
Ongoing police investigations
The victim’s body was sent to the Besut Hospital for a post-mortem, while the suspect was escorted to the Besut District Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division for further action.
According to a report by Buletin TV3, the suspect is currently being detained for investigation under Section 15(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Meanwhile, the accident itself is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act (APJ) 1987.
