A video is currently going viral online, and causing outrage among Malaysians, showing how a Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) fire engine had to struggle to get through a massive traffic jam in Cameron Highlands, Pahang.

The Tuna Cameron Facebook page shared the video of the incident, which allegedly took place on Sunday (14 September), during the long public holiday rush to the local tourist town.

In the video, the JBPM fire engine, with its lights and siren on, had to struggle to get through the traffic jam as some cars did their best to give way, while others seemed to either ignore its presence or did not have space to move at all.

What can be done about this?

The video left many feeling outraged over the lack of accessibility in and out of Cameron Highlands, especially for emergency vehicles in such situations, and called for there to be escort motorcycles to help make way.

“It is suggested that JBPM also use motorcycle escorts for crowded and high traffic areas.”
