Social media platform TikTok is expected to come forward to explain the Player Knockout (PK) Battle trend on its application, which is feared to be affecting youngsters and children negatively.

According to a report by Kosmo, Communications Minister, Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, shared that his department views this issue, which has been raised by concerned parents, seriously.

“The instructions were issued this morning, and I expect that perhaps this week, they (TikTok) will come in for a discussion,” he said.

What is the PK Battle trend?

In a separate report, Kosmo explained that youngsters and children have become increasingly obsessed with the Player Knockout Battle, or PK Battle, trend on TikTok, to the point that many have been skipping school and spending their pocket money to purchase digital gifts.

A PK Battle is a game between 2 social media users who compete to obtain digital gifts from viewers.

While the social media user that garners the most gifts is crowned the winner, the loser will receive various punishments, including having to wipe their face with flour, dousing their body with water and running outside the house at night.

Datuk Fahmi Fadzil added that this is one of the reasons why the government, especially the Ministry of Communications, insists that children under the age of 13 cannot have TikTok, Instagram or any other social media accounts.
