National Geographic recently released its newly expanded Best of the World 2024 guide that shares superlative experiences, hotels, restaurants, and wellness and cultural spots worth a trip this year.

One of the categories under this Best of the World 2024 guide is Cultural Spots and you’ll never guess which location has earned itself a spot. Nope, it’s not in Malaysia but it is Malaysian-owned!

The Battersea Power Station in London has been named among the best Cultural Spots to visit in 2024.

Battersea 1

Battersea 2

According to a report by New Straits Times, the £9 billion (RM54,178,105,275.00) power station was restored and made into a multifunction destination by a consortium of companies involving Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB), Sime Darby Property, S P Setia Bhd, and the Employees Provident Fund (EPF).

Battersea 3

“From the 1930s until the 1980s, this hulking brick coal plant provided up to a fifth of London’s power. A decade-long, $6 billion renovation means the smokestack-capped, 1.5 million-square-foot building is now a stylish shopping, dining, and entertainment hub,”

“Repurposed elements include Control Room B, a cocktail bar amid the dials and synchro-scopes of a one-time command post, and Lift 109, a glassed-in viewpoint atop one of Battersea’s iconic 357-foot-tall smokestacks. Visitors can stay onsite at the Art’otel with its rooftop pool and art gallery,” National Geographic shared.

If you’re like us and can’t actually afford to visit the Battersea Power Station in person, you can check it out here.
