In fact, some merchants have been jacking up the prices to try and earn more money during this crucial period, earning criticism from others. However, these stores in Sabah have been doing the exact opposite, as they have been giving out free masks to people who need them instead of selling them.

One Stop Superstore in Asia City and Orange 24HR convenience store at Imago Shopping Mall have been giving out free masks since yesterday (Jan 29th) in a bid to help others. People who needed masks were directed to the counter and they didn’t even need to buy anything to get the free masks.

To stop people from being selfish and hoarding the masks, the stores announced that they could only give one mask to one person. This is also based on a first-come-first-serve basis. Sinchew reported that they are planning to distribute 35,000 masks instead of selling them. The managing director said he discovered the masks in Kota Kinabalu were out of stock so he arranged for some to be sent there.

He said that he wanted to help those in need as many people were unable to buy masks. Once there is sufficient stock, they will start selling masks again. Netizens were touched by this kindness and praised the stores for not taking advantage of the insufficient stock.

That’s really kind and generous of them to be helping out like this by giving free masks!
