A thief in Thailand who had evaded the authorities numerous times was finally captured thanks to the efforts of a social media influencer.

According to a report by The Thaiger, 22-year-old Korraphak, infamously known in Thailand as the “ninja thief”, had allegedly committed thefts over 20 times but remained at large despite reports filed at 13 different police stations.

He apparently targeted people selling secondhand items on social media platforms by arranging to buy the item but then snatching it from the seller and fleeing on his motorcycle during the exchange.

To avoid getting caught, Korraphak would either use a motorcycle without a registration plate or with a fake registration plate, or sometimes even use stolen vehicles, so that it would be difficult to track him.

Among his victims was a man named John who was selling a camera worth 59,000 baht (RM7,596) through his Facebook account. Korraphak told John that he would send a delivery rider to pay for the camera and collect it for him. Korraphak then posed as the delivery rider and snatched the camera from John before riding off.

Another victim, a woman named Bee, arranged to sell her iPhone 15. When they met up for the exchange, Korraphak asked to test a feature on the phone and ran off with it the moment the phone was in his hands. Bee attempted to chase Korraphak, but he pushed her to the ground, causing her to lose consciousness.

He allegedly had many, many more victims.

After successfully stealing the items, he would sell them online. Some of these victims managed to find listings of their stolen items but were unable to reclaim them.

Taking matters to social media

Tired of watching him evade the law, some of his victims reached out to social media influencer, Guntouch ‘Gun’ Pongpaiboonwet, who later coordinated with the authorities to capture Korraphak.

On Wednesday (April 30), they managed to arrest him at his apartment.

Gun took to social media to showcase a video of police officers arriving at the apartment, where they initially did not find Korraphak. But, after some searching, they found him hiding under his bed.

An officer had lifted the bed’s wooden sheet to discover Korraphak hiding underneath.
