Study: Malaysia Climbs 2 Spots to 12th Place in 2024 for the World’s Most Powerful Passports!

Just last year, the Malaysian passport was ranked 14th among the most powerful in the world. This year, Malaysia has once again secured a spot on the list.

According to the Henley Passport Index 2024 by Henley & Partners, Malaysia has climbed 2 spots, moving up to 12th place in the ranking of the world’s most powerful passports!

Malaysia ranks 12th globally and 2nd in Southeast Asia!

As of August 2024, Malaysia is ranked 12th globally and maintains its position as the 2nd most powerful passport in Southeast Asia with a visa-free score of 182.

Singapore once again leads both globally and in Southeast Asia, securing the #1 spot with impressive visa-free access to 195 countries and territories.

Other Southeast Asian countries that made the ranking include:

  • Brunei at 19th
  • Timor-Leste at 50th
  • Thailand at 60th
  • Indonesia at 64th
  • The Philippines at 71st
  • Cambodia at 84th
  • Vietnam at 86th
  • Laos at 88th
  • Myanmar at 89th

The index covers 199 passports

Some countries, including Malaysia, are tied with others in the rankings. Malaysia shares its spot with Liechtenstein, both having a score of 182.

France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and Spain are tied for 2nd place with a visa-free score of 192. Just behind them are Austria, Finland, Ireland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, South Korea, and Sweden, each with access to 191 countries.

The Henley Passport Index relies on exclusive data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA). It covers 199 passports and 227 travel destinations.
