Students in certain parts of East Malaysia have been relying on the Fire and Rescue Department to assist them in getting to school so they can take their SPM examinations.

According to a report by BERNAMA, a teacher from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Kapit 2, Sarawak, had to call the Kapit Fire and Rescue Department to help get an SPM student from their longhouse to the school due to floods in the area.

The longhouse, located in Jalan Bukit Goram, Kapit, had been hit by floods with water levels rising over 1.2 meters.

The Kapit Fire and Rescue Department also took to their Facebook page to share a video of them using a boat to transport the student.

“Special assistance to evacuate a student from SMK Kapit 2, following flooding at the student’s home. The student will be sitting for their SPM examinations tomorrow (January 16) and was sent to the school’s dormitory at the request of a teacher from the school,” they explained.

However, the SMK Kapit 2 student isn’t the only one.

Parents of another SPM candidate, this time in Sibu, also had to rely on the assistance of the Fire and Rescue Department to get their child to their examination venue due to flooding on the main roads.

Thankfully, they too, were provided aid in the form of 2 firemen along with a 4-wheel-drive vehicle.

They also took the opportunity to help 2 members of the public get to work.
