The presence of an Adastra-type luxury yacht at Sungai Perlis, Kuala Perlis yesterday (August 13) attracted the attention of the public, especially fishermen and villagers located on the coast of Sungai Perlis.

Based on a report by Berita Harian, the super yacht which costs around USD45 million (more than RM200 million) is believed to have arrived from Langkawi.

The Perlis Fishermen’s Association (PELARIS) Board of Directors member Jasmi Hashim said that his party had informed the fishermen and residents around the entrance of Sungai Perlis about the presence and movement of the luxury yacht.

“However, we have not received any complaints from fishermen regarding interference in terms of fishing boat traffic at the mouth of the river,”

“In fact, we also understand that the luxury yacht is actually moving to the Perlis Marine Engineering (PME) Sdn Bhd dock located in Kampung Tengah Kuala Perlis for the purpose of repairs,” he said.

53-year-old fisherman Mat Che Ya shared that although many medium-sized ships pass through the estuary, sophisticated luxury yachts are rarely seen there.

“Many ships have passed here, only that the size is not big. So when the yacht passes here it looks like a spaceship on the water because it doesn’t look like a ship or boat that we usually see,” he explained.
