When you think about the colour red, what comes to mind? A traffic light telling you to stop? A warning sign? Or a red flag that signals danger ahead? One thing is for sure: we were always taught that red means we should pause, be careful, don’t proceed.

But what if red isn’t a warning at all – but a call to action? That’s what CIMB wants you to ask yourself for this campaign!

CIMB wants you to keep moving forward with their inspiring short film that will help you reach your next milestone of meaningful progress!

Not all red lights mean “stop”, but what if red means go? This way, CIMB is urging you to rediscover the determination to keep moving forward, no matter the obstacles!

Red means go: Turning setbacks into stepping stones

The short film opens with a series of everyday moments where red typically signals a warning. It switches between multiple narratives, including a woman rushing to work who falls when the traffic light turns red, a delivery rider whose motorbike breaks down, and a food vendor facing an eviction notice.

Upon facing these obstacles and on the verge of giving up, people dressed in red appear around the characters, starting what appears to be a flash mob, helping the characters pick themselves up and encouraging them to keep moving. Beyond the spectacle of the video is a clear message: obstacles are not the end of the road; they’re part of the journey too!

Another thing we can pick up from the short film is its clever inversion of red’s meaning. It challenges us to reinterpret our relationship with adversity (AKA life’s “red lights”) as signals to regroup, adapt, and try a different approach.

Check out the full short film below; you’ll be inspired in no time!

Moving forward beyond the short film

Under the Moving You Forward campaign, CIMB is encouraging Malaysians to pursue their dreams by overcoming challenges and creating lasting impact.

On top of leveraging the short film for this mission, CIMB is with everyday Malaysians for every step of the way during life’s bumpier moments. From SME owners to community members, CIMB is helping you stay resilient in times of adversity. It’s a pick-me-up for those who need a reminder that you don’t have to face challenges alone.

Remember: from now on, red can also mean go!

When the world tells you to avoid the challenging paths and stop when things get hard, CIMB is here to keep Moving You Forward with a refreshing take on determination! Progress does not always come in a straight line, and in fact, your next big breakthrough could be hiding behind an obstacle that’s just as big!
