Rapid Bus Issues Statement Regarding Incident on Lebuhraya Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu

Just yesterday (13 November), it was reported that a 17-year-old SPM student was allegedly killed in a hit-and-run incident on the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Highway in Penang, leaving his family members inconsolable at the scene. The authorities were reportedly going to use CCTV footage from the highway to identify the perpetrator.

Following this, Rapid Bus has since released an official statement regarding the incident.

Rapid Bus releases an official statement

Rapid Bus Sdn Bhd (Rapid Bus) shared a media statement with WORLD OF BUZZ confirming that the incident did involve a Rapid Penang bus.

Based on the statement, the motorcycle the student was riding had allegedly skidded against the side of the bus, leading to the fatal incident.

“Rapid Bus Sdn Bhd (Rapid Bus), as the operator of Rapid Penang bus services, confirms that an incident occurred involving a Rapid Penang bus on route 303 (Terminal Weld Quay – Bukit Gedung) on ​​the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Highway at around 11.00 am this morning (13 November),”

“Based on initial information, the incident involved a motorcycle that had skidded off the right side of the bus. The bus captain and all 9 passengers on the bus did not suffer any injuries,” they shared.

It further explained that Rapid Bus is conducting an internal investigation and will provide full cooperation with the authorities to assist in further investigations.

“Rapid Bus takes every incident involving the safety of passengers and other road users seriously,”

“As of now, any reports and confirmations regarding this incident are still under investigation by the authorities,” they added.

 

A collision 

According to a report by NST, Timur Laut District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Abdul Rozak Muhammad, explained that the victim is believed to have changed lanes and collided with the bus that was travelling straight on the left lane, near the flyover.

“The impact caused the teenager to suffer severe injuries, and he was pronounced dead at the scene,” he added.
