While the family and the rest of the Malaysians mourn the death of the victim in the fatal stabbing incident at a secondary school in Bandar Utama, Petaling Jaya, Selangor, one of the victim’s classmates revealed that many students are still traumatised by the incident, including himself.

The school had recorded many absentees following the attack, and many students have not returned to the school out of fear.

The classmate, Adam, who had known the victim for three years now, said that the victim, to him, was someone gentle, polite, and helpful.

“Everyone liked her at school.”

Adam, accompanied by his parents, visited the funeral home yesterday (17 October) to pay his last respects to the victim, and revealed to the media that after the shocking incident, the management of the school upped their security measures.

Adam also revealed that the victim did not know the 14-year-old personally, a statement that was also made by her mother during a press conference.

From a witness perspective, Adam also shared what happened on the sorrowful day, and said that everyone was sitting for an examination during the attack. The victim sought permission to go to the ladies’ toilet at around 9 AM, and when she had not returned 20 minutes later, the teacher went to check on her.

Her classroom was on the third floor, and the ladies’ toilet was on the ground floor.

“The teacher saw the suspect walking around with a knife and told us to lock the door and stay in the classroom.”

Adam said that everyone was told later that the suspect had been subdued by other teachers and his brother. He also said that the school has arranged a team of psychological counsellors and teachers from other schools to provide psychological counselling and emotional support to students returning to school.

The suspect is currently in police custody, and the matter is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
