Recently, Pets Wonderland announced that it will be phasing out sales of cats and dogs from all its stores after videos of malnourished dogs for sale at the Mid Valley Megamall outlet went viral.

Taking to its Instagram page to share a statement, the company explained its next steps.

“We sincerely thank you for your continued support and trust. Over the years, it has been our privilege to serve pet lovers across the country, and we remain deeply committed to the well-being of animals and the communities we care so deeply about,”

“After thoughtful reflection and extensive dialogue with customers, animal welfare organisations, and our internal teams, we will be phasing out the sale of cats and dogs across all our outlets,” they announced.

They went on to share that this transition will begin at their Mid Valley Megamall outlet at the end of August and will be slowly implemented across their remaining locations, latest by the end of this year. The cats and dogs at the outlets will be rehomed.

Pets Wonderland will continue to operate through its products and services.

“As part of this transition, we will continue to provide high-quality pet supplies and expert guidance, while actively partnering with shelters and rescue organisations to promote adoption efforts. This is a significant change for us, but we believe it marks a meaningful step towards a kinder and more ethical pet industry,” they added.

The viral incident

Before this, My Forever Doggo shared a video showcasing malnourished Golden Retriever puppies for sale at Pets Wonderland’s Mid Valley Megamall outlet.

“These pups’ fates are the result of a continuous cycle of suffering of pets being bred and sold in these stores. How do you feel when you see dogs being sold at pet shops? Should pet shops stop selling cats and dogs?” My Forever Doggo asked.
