Rather than staying in Kuala Lumpur (KL) on the weekdays and travelling back to Penang on the weekends, a Malaysian woman found it more convenient and affordable to fly back and forth between Penang and KL on a daily basis.

CNA Insider took to their YouTube channel to showcase Racheal Kaur, who has been dubbed a ‘super commuter’ because she flies from Penang to KL, and vice versa, every single day, from Monday to Friday for work.

In their video, Racheal was shown leaving her home at 5am to head to the airport.

“Usually, I’m up around 4am, 4:10am, 4:15am at the latest. And then, I am showered, dressed, and I leave my home by 5am. And then I take a slow drive to the airport, boarding is at 5:55am, so it gives me plenty of time to, you know, park my car, put on my shoes, walk over, get myself boarded, check into the flight, sit down,”

“And then the flight usually takes about half an hour to 40 minutes. And I’m in the office no later than 7:45am,” she shared.

After initially renting a place to stay in KL and only commuting back to Penang on the weekends, she ultimately decided to make a change for her children.

“I have 2 kids, both are growing. My oldest is 12-years-old and my daughter is 11-years-old. With them growing up, I feel that the need for the mother to be around more often,”

“And with this arrangement, I’m able to go home every day, I’m able to see them at night, help out with any last-minute homework. You know kids, there’s always something last-minute,” she explained.

This arrangement also helps her save more

Racheal, who works for AirAsia, uses her own income to pay for her daily flights but also enjoys an employee discount. This comes up to an estimated RM50 a day and RM1,100 a month.

“When I was renting in KL, I was paying between RM1,400 to RM1,500, on average. With me being at home, I’m only paying my mortgage, which is about RM1,000,” she added.

She also only has to walk 5 to 7 minutes to get to her office from the airport, which she considers a relief from the traffic jams of getting to Sepang from KL.
