The driver believed to have caused the fatal crash that claimed the lives of two teenage girls in Teluk Intan on Sunday (26 July) has tested positive for drugs.

Hilir Perak District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Chua Kok Lian said preliminary urine screening confirmed that the 28-year-old local man tested positive for benzodiazepines. He has since been detained to assist in investigations on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs.

Both teenage victims on the motorcycle were pronounced dead at the scene

According to Chua, initial investigations revealed that the accident occurred at around 6:35 PM along Jalan Padang Tembak, when the suspect allegedly lost control of his car while attempting to overtake another vehicle.

“The car then collided with a motorcycle, another car travelling ahead, and a young boy who was standing by the roadside,” he said in a statement on Monday (27 July).

Underage victims identified

The impact proved fatal for the two teenage girls riding the motorcycle, who were pronounced dead at the scene. The suspect and the injured boy were rushed to Teluk Intan Hospital for medical treatment.

The deceased have been identified as Nur Dania Arissa, 17, a student of SMK Seri Setia, and Nur Atikah Abdullah, 16, a student of SMK Raja Muda Musa.
